Busy Week pt 1(Chysalis update: Butterfly house, Nature walk, Playtime at the park)

Its been such a busy week that I literally have not even touched the computer during the day…and I have been working on crocheting a baby blanket for a friend of mine who is having a shower next weekend so I have not been on the computer in the evenings either.

This week will be split into 2 posts and this one is quite long…..just to warn you all!!!!

I’m not giong to post what day certain things happened because if the pictures do not have the date on them it will take me too much time to edit them and add the date and this post will never get done!!!!

Tessa has still been busy working on counting to 100 by herself. She has made it all the way to 39 without help and she only seems to need help with 40, 50, sometimes 60 and she also sometimes messes up her 6’s and 9’s (out loud not writing, so she will say 45, 49, 50 instead of 45, 46, 47)

I found osme number stickers in our sticker box and she decided to use the stickers to count. Ofcourse we ran out of the number 1 and the number 2 quickly so she had to write them in. She did pretty good by herself but quit after 26 because there were not enough sticker numbers to count all the way to 100. We have continued to count while driving to Sarnia. It helps to pass the 15-20 minutes and it has been especially helpful on the drive home when she usually falls asleep and her quietness helps Quinn to sleep in the car too. When Quinn falls asleep in the car he refuses to go back to sleep once we are home and 15 minutes is not a long enough nap for him. He will either be really cranky by dinner time or does not go back to sleep until almost 4pm and then I always worry he wont go to bed on time…..ive been pretty lucky so far with bed time!

I have FINALLY taken a picture of the butterfly house we built. We purchased a laundry bag for delicates at the dollar store. I was hoping to get the pop up laundry basket but they didn’t have any at the store we went too. I had seen a post on pinterest about building a butterfly house and thought this mesh bag would work. I put cardboard rectangles in the top and bottom section but because the bag was not a rectangle bag the sides woudn’t stay nicely. I thought putting the rocks in the bottom would make it heavy enough to pull the mesh straight. It worked. I hot glued ou chrysalis stick to the bottom cardboard and the side of the mesh so that it would stay upright.

I really think our butterfly is in it for the long haul and we will have to wait until May/June for it to emerge. Tessa is no longer interested in it at all but I hope she will get excited once it begins to emerge.

Daddy was home at the begining of the week because he was not feeling well and the weather was really nice out so when Quinn went down for a nap I decided to take Tessa into town for a natre walk and to play at the park and visit the animal farm.

We didn’t end up getting to go to the farm. We had our walk first and then played at the park. As we walked over to the farm (and literally as Tessa made it to the gate) they were locking the gate up. I thought the farm was open until 4pm but apparently they changed the time 3:30. Tessa was not happy about this at all and was screaming and crying the whole way back to the car. Luckily later in the week we would be back there for a Thanksgiving lunch with our playgroup and I would make sure we made it to the farm.

Here are some pictures of the things we seen along our nature walk

The water was drying up but the ducks do not seem to mind. Later in the week when we returned there was no water left at all

Tessa thought this fallen down tree was really neat. I told her it was rottena nd that is why it fell down and that the bugs are now eating the insides

We found this hole along the path. I asked Tessa if she knew how it got there and she thought that ants had made the hole. I told her it might have been ants but it was a pretty big hole and maybe a small animal made the hole. She couldn’t think of any animals that might have made the hole. I mentioned that it could have been a mouse or chipmunk….but Im not sure if chipmunks live in the ground.

We tried to look inside to see if we could find an animal living in there but it was too deep and too dark.

 Another fallen tree we seen

Tessa noticed the holes in the leaves and decided that a caterpillar must of eaten them. She spend a long time looking around this plant for a chrysalis but we did not see one

Im not sure if you can see in this picture but there are duck footprints all over the mud and Tessa thought it was neat and wanted me to take a picture.

This tree had been cut down and Tessa loved that it looked like a T. I explained to her about the rings inside the tree and that you can tell how old the tree is by counting how many rings it has. She didn’t feel like counting.

The bark had been peeled off the outside of this tree and Tessa thought it was interesteing that the wood under the bark was almost smooth. I asked her if she knew how the bark came off the tree and she thought the bugs from the other tree were eating it. She said the bugs like the inside of the other tree and the outside of this tree…Ha Ha. I told her that animals were probably pulling the bark off to see if they could find bugs under it.

There was a large pile of bark laying on the ground beside the tree. Tessa decided to try to make a shadow puppet. It was not quite sunny enough but here she is making a butterfly.

We found some moss but Tessa was not interested in talking about it or looking at it. The sun had disappeared and she was hearing noises from other people walking in the trails and she was scared.

On our way out of the trails She seen this branch and told me that the animals were ripping the bark off to find bugs.

After our nature walk we went to the park to play. Tessa was having a great time playing in the sand and burying her hands and eventually her legs. She was soo dirty once we left but she had a great time. A couple of kids tried coming to play with her and bury their hands and legs but the other moms kept yelling at their kids to stop getting dirty. There were lots of moms yelling at their kids to “stop that” , “dont do that”, “your going to get hurt if you climb up there”. I was really sad that the kids were not allowed to try things and get messy. There are some days where I dont want the mess either and refuse to bring out the paints or go dig in the dirt but come on people….your at the park!!!!!!

I asked Tessa why the sand deeper down was so dark and she told me its because it is wet. “There is water in the ground you know mom!” She said. I couldn’t help but laugh.

On the way back to the car to head home I seen these to 2 trees and thought it would make a great photo op!.

Unfortunatly my camera had other plans and would not focus the way I wanted it too. But we had fun anyways and Tessa started practicing her silly faces….which she does all the time now when i pull out the camera!

Oh yes. These geese and ducks were hanging out infront of the animal farm. Does anyone know why the wings look like this on the goose? It was only the one goose who was like this and when we came back later in the week it was still like that….and im assuming it was the same goose both days because there was only one with the wings spread out like that.

When we got home there was this really cool bug on the siding at our door. I can’t belive how many cool bugs we have seen since moving out here. This is our stick bug. We didn’t catch it but it was very cool to look at.
